NCAI members establish the organization’s positions on issues that affect Indian Nations and Indian people through a resolutions process. NCAI resolutions are one of the policy mechanisms used to express the organizational positions on federal, state, local and/or tribal legislation, litigation, and policy matters that affect tribal governments or communities. NCAI resolutions cover a broad range of topics and are equally important for providing direction to the organization and as advocacy tools with policy-makers. In June of 2002, NCAI adopted a Policy Statement which addresses the organization’s general stance on issues such as tribal sovereignty, treaty rights, federal trust responsibility, health, housing, education, environmental quality, and physical, spiritual, traditional, and cultural customs and practices of American Indians and Native Alaskans. These matters remain an intrinsic focus of the organization’s work.
The submission deadline for resolutions to be considered at the 2009 Annual Conference is September 21st, 2009. Submit electronic versions of resolutions to Amber Ebarb, aebarb@ncai.org, in Word format.
